Round Oak Steelworks

The Round Oak Steelworks, established in 1857 in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, was a significant steel production facility during the Industrial Revolution. Initially focused on wrought iron, it transitioned to steelmaking in the 1890s, becoming the first UK steelworks to utilize natural gas. At its peak, it employed thousands and produced a variety of steel products, including high-strength steel. The site has a rich history tied to the Dudley family and underwent several ownership changes, including nationalization and privatization. Despite its historical importance, the steelworks closed in December 1982, marking the end of an era in British industrial history.
