Templemoor

Templemoor, also known as the Post-Crawford House, is a historic Italianate mansion located in Harrison County, West Virginia, near Clarksburg. Built in 1874 for Ira Carper Post, this 2+1⁄2-story brick home features stunning architectural details, including a combination hip and gable roof adorned with colorful slate shingles. It served as the boyhood home of renowned author Melville Davisson Post, known for his mystery novels. The house retains much of its original charm and is surrounded by a 300-acre working farm, making it a fascinating site for both tourists and researchers interested in 19th-century architecture and literary history. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, Templemoor showcases exquisite woodwork and distinctive Italianate design elements, including tall narrow windows and decorative eaves, providing a glimpse into the past.
