Don Abel Stearns House

The Don Abel Stearns House, also known as El Palacio, was a significant adobe residence located in Los Angeles, California, built between 1835 and 1838. This expansive one-story structure featured a large courtyard and served as a prominent social hub for Southern California's elite during the 19th century. It hosted grand balls and gatherings attended by notable figures such as Commodore Jones and Captain Fremont. The house was also the site of a historical incident in 1839 involving a flag dispute that nearly sparked a revolution. Although the Stearns House was demolished in 1876, its legacy as a center of social and political activity in early Los Angeles remains a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
