Merchant Bank Building (Kharkiv)

The Merchant Bank Building, located in the heart of Kharkiv on Pavlivskyi Square, is a striking example of Northern Modern architecture, completed between 1910 and 1913. Originally designed to house the Kharkiv Merchant Society and an elite hotel named 'Astoria', the building features intricate stucco work and large Atlases. After suffering damage during World War II, it was restored and later became known as 'Melody', housing a prominent music store for several decades. This historical landmark not only showcases the architectural evolution of the early 20th century but also reflects the cultural shifts in Kharkiv's urban landscape.
