Olimpo (detention center)

Olimpo was a clandestine detention center in Buenos Aires, operational from August 1978 to January 1979 during Argentina's Dirty War. Despite its brief existence, around 700 individuals were illegally detained, with only 50 surviving. Originally a tram terminal, it was repurposed by the military dictatorship into a facility for torture and imprisonment. The center was notorious for its inhumane conditions and was overseen by high-ranking military officials. After the return of democracy, the site was transformed into an automotive verification center and later declared a historic site. It serves as a poignant reminder of Argentina's turbulent past and the human rights abuses that occurred during this dark chapter in history.
