Independence Hall

Constructed as the Pennsylvania State House between 1732 and 1753, Independence Hall is the site where the Declaration of Independence was debated and adopted in 1776 and where the U.S. Constitution was drafted in 1787. The building is a central feature of Independence National Historical Park and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an outstanding example of early American civic architecture. Its timber-frame and masonry construction reflect 18th-century public-building techniques that have been preserved and interpreted for visitors.
