Sirius Building

The Sirius Building, located in The Rocks district of Sydney, is a notable example of Brutalist architecture designed by Tao Gofers in the late 1970s. Originally built to house displaced public tenants following controversial redevelopment in the area, it features unique geometric designs influenced by Japanese metabolist architecture. The building has been at the center of heritage preservation debates, with efforts to protect it from redevelopment due to its social significance and architectural merit. Despite winning the Enduring Architecture Award in 2018, the building's future remains uncertain as it prepares for new residents in 2024, following the departure of its last resident in 2018. The Sirius Building is recognized internationally as a significant example of endangered Brutalist architecture.
