Smith Alumnae Gymnasium

The Smith Alumnae Gymnasium, located on the Smith College campus in Northampton, Massachusetts, is a historic athletic facility built in 1890. Notable for being one of the first American athletic buildings designed specifically for women, it hosted the first formal women's basketball game in 1892. The building features a striking Late Gothic architectural style and is constructed of red brick with brownstone trim. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Today, it houses the college's archives and is connected to the Neilson Library by a bridge, making it a significant landmark for visitors interested in women's sports history and collegiate architecture.
