The Orange Show Monument

The Orange Show Monument is a folk-art environment created by Jefferson "Jeff" McKissack, who began building the site in 1956 and added structures and mosaics over many years to celebrate the orange. The site became the core of the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, a nonprofit that preserves outsider and visionary art. The center runs public programs and community events, including the long-running Orange Show Festival. The monument is a prominent example of Houston's vernacular folk-art tradition.
