Fort Caroline National Memorial (1564 French Huguenot expedition)

Fort Caroline National Memorial commemorates the 1564 French Huguenot expedition led by René Goulaine de Laudonnière that established a short-lived settlement on the St. Johns River. The National Park Service site interprets the French attempt to colonize northeastern Florida, its encounters with indigenous peoples, and its conflict with Spanish forces under Pedro Menéndez de Avilés.
