Old Point Loma Lighthouse (1855)

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was first lit in 1855 at the tip of the Point Loma peninsula as San Diego's first lighthouse. Because fog and low clouds frequently obscured the light at that high location, the lantern was relocated to a lower site in 1891 and the original lighthouse was decommissioned. The structure is preserved and interpreted as part of Cabrillo National Monument.
