The Phoenix Lights (1997) - widely reported UFO sightings

On March 13, 1997, thousands of people across the Phoenix metropolitan area reported seeing a series of unexplained lights in the night sky in an event now known as the Phoenix Lights. Witnesses included residents near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and public officials, and Governor Fife Symington later publicly acknowledged seeing something over Phoenix. The U.S. Air Force subsequently identified some lights as flares dropped during training exercises, but debate continues among witnesses and researchers about the origin of the main formation. The incident remains one of the most widely reported and documented UFO sightings in U.S. history.
