Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital

The Ether Dome is the surgical amphitheater in the Warren Operating Theater at Massachusetts General Hospital where the first public demonstration of ether anesthesia took place on October 16, 1846. The room preserves its 19th-century gallery configuration and surgical table and is part of the Warren Anatomical Museum collection. Because it is inside an active hospital and open to the public on limited schedules, the Ether Dome is less visible to casual visitors than standalone museums.
