Seminary of Nobles of Madrid

The Seminary of Nobles of Madrid was a historic building located next to Princesa Street, originally established in 1725 to educate young men from noble families. Designed with possible contributions from architect Pedro de Ribera, the institution faced financial difficulties in the late 18th century and was repurposed during the Napoleonic invasion as a military hospital and later a prison. It played a significant role in Spanish history, notably housing General Riego before his execution. The seminary closed in 1836 following the abolition of noble privileges and was later used by the University of Alcalá before becoming a military hospital again. Tragically, the building was destroyed by fire in 1889, marking the end of its storied existence.
