Lincoln Cottage (Soldiers' Home)

The Soldiers' Home in the Tenleytown neighborhood includes the Lincoln Cottage at 140 Rock Creek Church Road NW, where President Abraham Lincoln spent many summer weeks during the Civil War. Lincoln used the cottage as a working retreat and met with Cabinet members and military leaders there; the site is interpreted for its presidential and Civil War associations. The cottage is preserved as the President Lincoln's Cottage National Monument and operated for public education and tours.
