Guild House (Philadelphia)

Guild House is a historic residential building in Philadelphia, recognized as a significant example of 20th-century architecture and the first major work by renowned architect Robert Venturi. Completed in 1963, it was designed to provide low-income housing for senior citizens and is celebrated for its unique blend of conventional commercial architecture and ironic historical references, marking a departure from Modernist ideals. The building features a striking six-story facade with a monumental entrance pavilion and a mix of red clay brick and double-hung windows, embodying Venturi's 'decorated shed' philosophy.
