Kubota Garden and its Japanese-American heritage

Kubota Garden was created beginning in 1927 by Japanese immigrant gardener Fujitaro Kubota and blends Japanese garden design with Pacific Northwest plantings; the site was donated to the city and later preserved as a public garden. The garden's origins and preservation are tied to the history of Seattle's Japanese-American community and the broader wartime and postwar experiences that affected that community. Today Kubota Garden is recognized as a notable historic and horticultural site in Seattle.
