The Barnes Foundation's installation method

The Barnes Foundation's collection is installed according to Dr. Albert C. Barnes' original concept: tightly hung ensembles of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early Modern paintings arranged by aesthetic relationship rather than chronology. When the collection moved to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in 2012, curators worked to preserve Barnes' distinctive hanging method as a defining, documented characteristic of the institution. The installation approach is central to the Barnes' identity and visitor experience.
