Pohjola Insurance building

The Pohjola Insurance building, located at the intersection of Aleksanterinkatu and Mikonkatu in central Helsinki, is a stunning example of Finnish national romantic architecture, designed by the renowned firm Gesellius, Lindgren & Saarinen and completed between 1899 and 1901. Originally serving as the headquarters for the Pohjola Insurance Company, the building features a striking façade of rough-hewn soapstone and red granite, adorned with intricate sculptures inspired by Finnish folklore. Notable elements include a corner tower topped with a pinecone-shaped roof and a richly decorated entrance designed by Hilda Flodin. The interior boasts rustic motifs, including carved wood and stained glass, creating a unique atmosphere that reflects Finland's cultural heritage.
