Colorado State Capitol (1894 construction and gold dome)

The Colorado State Capitol in Denver was completed in 1894 and houses the Colorado General Assembly and the offices of the governor. In 1908 the Capitol's dome was gilded with gold leaf to commemorate the Colorado Gold Rush and subsequent miners; the building remains an operational seat of state government. A brass marker on the west steps marks the general elevation of one mile (5,280 feet) above sea level.
