Hatteras Weather Bureau Station

The Hatteras Weather Bureau Station, built in 1901, is a historic wood-frame building located in Hatteras, North Carolina. It served as a vital weather station from 1902 to 1946, providing crucial data on Atlantic Ocean conditions from a unique coastal vantage point. After its operational years, it transitioned to living quarters for Weather Bureau staff and was later utilized by the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1958, the building became part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore and was used as a research facility by Duke University and North Carolina State University until 1976. Recognized for its historical significance, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
