Transylvania Barracks

The Transylvania Barracks, built between 1719 and 1729 in Timișoara, Romania, were once the largest barracks in the city and one of the longest buildings in Europe, stretching 483 meters. Designed by Count Claude Florimond de Mercy, they featured a distinctive curved shape and housed military personnel and their families. The barracks were demolished between 1961 and 1965 to make way for modern urban development, and today, a small remnant serves as part of the National Theatre. The site now hosts Civic Park and other modern structures, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the city's rich history and architectural evolution.
