Comcast Center - ironworkers' William Penn statue and the 'Billy Penn' folklore

When the Comcast Center topped out in 2007, ironworkers placed a small statue of William Penn on the building’s final structural beam in keeping with a longstanding local tradition of honoring the city’s founder. Local sports fans connected that placement, and a later similar placement on another skyscraper, with the end of the so‑called 'Curse of Billy Penn' after the Philadelphia Phillies won the 2008 World Series; the curse is a popular local folklore and its causal claim is debated. The Comcast Center is a major office tower and regional Comcast corporate presence in Center City.
