Jezreel's Tower

Jezreel's Tower, also known as Jezreel's Temple, was a unique religious headquarters built in the 1880s in Gillingham, Kent, by James Jershom Jezreel, a leader of a sect inspired by the teachings of Joanna Southcott. The tower was designed as a perfect cube and featured an impressive circular assembly room capable of holding 5,000 people, complete with a glass dome and hydraulic platform for speakers. The community surrounding the tower, known as Jezreelites, engaged in various trades to support their lifestyle, which included a strict abstinence from alcohol. Despite its ambitious design, the tower was completed posthumously after Jezreel's death in 1885, but it was ultimately demolished in 1961. Today, the site represents a fascinating chapter in religious history and architectural ambition in England.
