Old Red Lion, Holborn

The Old Red Lion is a historic pub located at 72 High Holborn, London, established in the sixteenth century and rebuilt in 1899, preserving its Victorian charm. It was once the most significant inn in Holborn, giving its name to nearby Red Lion Street and Red Lion Square. Notably, in 1660, it was the site where the bodies of Oliver Cromwell and other Roundheads were stored overnight before a staged execution. The upstairs room, known as the Cromwell Bar, adds to its historical intrigue. Additionally, in 1621, the innkeeper faced legal issues for charging exorbitant prices for oats, highlighting the pub's long-standing presence in London's history.
