Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (named for surgeon Michael E. DeBakey)

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston is named for pioneering cardiovascular surgeon Michael E. DeBakey, who practiced in Houston and taught at Baylor College of Medicine. DeBakey is widely credited with major advances in vascular and cardiac surgery, including development of the roller pump used in cardiopulmonary bypass and numerous surgical techniques. The medical center recognizes his long association with Houston's medical institutions and surgical innovations.
