Grand Pacific Hotel (Chicago)

The Grand Pacific Hotel, one of Chicago's first prominent hotels built after the Great Chicago Fire, was designed by William W. Boyington and managed by John Drake. Known for its 'Great Game Dinners' featuring exotic cuisines, it became a social institution for over 50 years. The hotel, built in the palazzo architectural style, hosted notable guests including Oscar Wilde and James A. Garfield during significant historical events. It played a role in the adoption of Standard time in 1883. The hotel was remodeled in 1898 and operated until its demolition in 1921, making way for the Continental Illinois Bank.
