Frederick Krause Mansion

The Frederick Krause Mini Mansion, located in Platte City, Missouri, is a historic two-story building constructed between 1882 and 1883 by Prussian immigrant Frederic Krause. This Second Empire style mansion features distinctive red brick and limestone architecture, topped with a unique mansard roof adorned with ornamental cast iron work. It is often referred to as a 'mini' mansion due to its architectural similarities with the Missouri Governor's Mansion. Today, the mansion serves as the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum, showcasing regional history through a collection of local artifacts from the mid-1800s to 1920. Opened to the public in 1985, the museum offers exhibits and events that highlight both local heritage and the mansion's own historical significance. The mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers alike.
