Lincoln Cottage (Soldiers' Home)

Constructed in the mid-19th century as housing for the superintendent of the Soldiers' Home, Lincoln Cottage served as a residence and working retreat for President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War years. Lincoln used the cottage for meetings and as a place to escape the heat and bustle of the White House between 1862 and 1864. The house retains period architectural features and is designated a National Historic Site operated for public interpretation.
