Steamboat House (Huntsville, Texas)

Steamboat House, located at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, is a historic house museum known for its unique architecture that earned it the nickname 'steamboat.' Built in 1858 as a wedding gift, it became the site of Sam Houston's death in 1863, with his funeral held in the upstairs parlor. The house has a rich history, having passed through several owners before being donated to the Texas Historical Commission in 1933 and relocated to the university in 1936. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Texas history.
