Queen's College, Birmingham

Queen's College, founded in 1825 by surgeon William Sands Cox, was a pioneering medical school in Birmingham, England, and a precursor to the University of Birmingham. Initially known as The Birmingham Medical School, it was the first institution in Birmingham to award degrees through the University of London. The college featured a large Gothic Revival building with lecture theatres, laboratories, and accommodations for students. Over the years, it evolved into Queen's College in 1843 and became known for its exclusive Anglican affiliation. Notable alumni include prominent figures in medicine, music, and academia. The original building was demolished in the 1970s, but its historic façade remains as part of the Queen's College Chambers, a modern development.
