Rothko Chapel (unique non-denominational art chapel)

The Rothko Chapel is a non-denominational chapel in Houston containing 14 large paintings by Mark Rothko, commissioned by John and Dominique de Menil and completed in 1971. It was conceived as a space for contemplation and interfaith gatherings and is internationally known for its integration of modern art and spiritual purpose. The chapel is located on the Menil campus and operates independently of any single religious institution. It is widely cited as a singular example of an artist-designed sacred space in the United States.
