Blue Whale model in Milstein Hall of Ocean Life (American Museum of Natural History)

The 94-foot-long model of a blue whale has been suspended in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History since 1969 as a central, large-scale installation of the hall. Constructed of fiberglass and plaster over a steel armature, the life-sized model serves as a long-standing educational and interpretive centerpiece about marine life. The installation has undergone maintenance and conservation work over the decades and remains one of the museum’s most visited and photographed exhibits.
