Fort Negley wartime history and hauntings

Fort Negley is a Union-built fortification constructed in 1862–63 after the Union capture of Nashville during the Civil War; it is now preserved as Fort Negley Park. Local lore and ghost tours relate reports of unexplained sounds and sightings on the hill, which are commonly attributed to soldiers who served or died there, though such accounts are anecdotal and debated. The site is interpreted by the Metro Nashville Parks department for its military and social history, including the labor used in its construction. Fort Negley remains a documented Civil War landmark and public park.
