The Alamo (Mission San Antonio de Valero) ruins

Mission San Antonio de Valero, commonly called the Alamo, is the surviving chapel and compound remnants of an 18th-century Spanish mission in downtown San Antonio. The site was the focal point of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution, and the extant chapel is the best-known remnant of the original mission complex. The site has been preserved and interpreted as a museum and shrine, with visible masonry and architectural fabric from the mission era and later 19th-century military use.
