Strand Theatre (Dorchester historic vaudeville house)

The Strand Theatre in Dorchester opened in 1918 as a vaudeville and movie palace and after periods of decline was rehabilitated and reopened as a community performing-arts venue serving the neighborhood. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and regularly hosts concerts, film screenings, and local cultural events. The Strand's preservation and continued use are cited as examples of Boston's efforts to maintain historic neighborhood cultural institutions.
