Fort Point masonry seacoast fort

Fort Point is a mid-19th-century masonry fort built as part of San Francisco's coastal defenses and was completed in 1861. The fort survived the 1906 earthquake and later became part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is located directly beneath the Golden Gate Bridge and is preserved as a National Historic Site with interpretive exhibits about coastal defense and Civil War–era construction.
