Howard Theatre (Shaw)

Opened in 1910, the Howard Theatre on T Street NW became a central performance venue for African American artists in Washington, D.C. It hosted performers such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Ella Fitzgerald during the 20th century. After a period of closure and decline, the theater was restored and reopened in 2012 as an active live-performance venue.
