Ávila Adobe

The Ávila Adobe, constructed in 1818, is the oldest standing residence in Los Angeles, California, located in the historic Olvera Street area. This California Historical Landmark showcases the early Spanish colonial architecture with its thick adobe walls and high ceilings. Originally built by wealthy rancher Francisco Ávila, the home has served various purposes over the years, including a hotel and temporary housing for U.S. troops. Saved from demolition in the late 1920s by preservationist Christine Sterling, it now operates as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Los Angeles and its Mexican cultural heritage.
