Gruwell and Crew General Store

The Gruwell and Crew General Store, established in 1894, is one of the oldest buildings in West Branch, Iowa. Originally serving various purposes including a music store and harness shop, it now operates as a museum after being converted by the West Branch Heritage Foundation in 1964. The store retains its original architectural features, including a false-front facade and wooden interiors, and is part of the West Branch Commercial Historic District. However, it has been listed as one of the most endangered sites by Preservation Iowa due to its deteriorating condition.
