Presidential Emergency Operations Center (White House bunker)

The White House contains the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC), a secure underground facility beneath the East Wing that serves as an emergency shelter and continuity-of-government command center. The PEOC was used during the September 11, 2001 attacks to shelter Vice President Dick Cheney and other senior officials. The facility remains an active, secured component of White House emergency planning.
