U.S. Naval Observatory - Master Clock and astronomical research

The U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington operates precision atomic clocks known as the Master Clock and supplies timekeeping and astronomical data for the U.S. Navy and other federal uses. The observatory maintains telescopes and has supported astrometric and celestial navigation research since the 19th and 20th centuries. The grounds also include the official residence of the Vice President of the United States.
