Skindles

Skindles was a historic hotel located in Maidenhead, England, along the picturesque River Thames. Originally built in 1743 as the Orkney Arms, it transformed into a fashionable hotel in 1833 under William Skindle. Known for its scandalous reputation in the 20th century, it attracted notable guests like Winston Churchill and Princess Margaret, and hosted famous musicians such as The Rolling Stones. The hotel has been referenced in literature and film, including the play 'Journey's End' and the movie 'Kind Hearts and Coronets.' After years of decline, Skindles was demolished in 2015, paving the way for a new development that includes residential homes and a restaurant, Roux at Skindles, which pays homage to its storied past.
