Wapsipinicon Mill

The Wapsipinicon Mill, located in Independence, Iowa, is a historic industrial building that dates back to 1854, with the current structure completed in 1867. This five-story mill features a unique graduated basilica form, stone foundation, and brick walls, adorned with gable roofs and distinctive arched windows. Recognized for its historical significance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. After ceasing operations as a mill in 1976, it was transformed into a museum by the Buchanan County Historical Society, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's industrial past.
