The Astrodome - the 'Eighth Wonder of the World' nickname

The Astrodome at NRG Park opened in 1965 as the world's first multi-purpose domed sports stadium and was widely nicknamed the "Eighth Wonder of the World." It served as the home of the Houston Astros (MLB) and Houston Oilers (AFL/NFL) and hosted numerous sporting and civic events. The structure's dome and artificial playing surface were pioneering for their time.
