Scuola vecchia della Misericordia

The Scuola vecchia della Misericordia, or 'Old School of Mercy', is a historic charity building located in the Cannaregio district of Venice, Italy. Established in 1310, this former seat of a charity institution showcases the rich architectural evolution of Venice, having undergone several enlargements over the centuries. By the early 16th century, it had merged with a nearby Franciscan abbey, leading to the construction of a new meeting hall, the Scuola Nuova della Misericordia, which was designed by the renowned architect Jacopo Sansovino. Although the new hall was never completed as originally intended, it has recently been restored, making it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers interested in Venice's charitable history and architectural heritage.
