Brandon Plantation (Halifax County, Virginia)

Brandon Plantation is a historic plantation home situated near Alton in Halifax County, Virginia. This two-part, frame vernacular farmhouse features a section built around 1800 and an addition from 1842. Notably, the interior showcases craftsmanship attributed to Thomas Day, a prominent African-American cabinetmaker. Despite significant remodeling in the 1960s, the plantation retains much of its architectural integrity. Visitors can explore additional historical structures on the property, including a frame kitchen/slave quarter and an early stone-lined well. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, Brandon Plantation is recognized as an important site in Virginia's African American history.
