Clayborn Temple

Clayborn Temple, built in 1898, is a historic church in downtown Memphis that served as a major organizing site and meeting hall for the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers Strike. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders used the building during the strike; the temple remains associated with that documented episode of civil rights history. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been the focus of preservation and restoration efforts.
