Dumbarton Oaks Conference, birthplace of UN planning

In 1944 the Dumbarton Oaks estate hosted conferences where representatives of the United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, and China drafted proposals that became the basis for the United Nations Charter. The meetings ran from August to October 1944 and directly informed the 1945 UN Conference in San Francisco. The estate is today the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, noted for its gardens and diplomatic-historical significance.
