El Cortez Hotel (1927)

The El Cortez opened in 1927 as a high-rise hotel in downtown San Diego and was one of the city's earliest skyscrapers. For decades it was the tallest building in San Diego and a prominent example of early 20th-century urban development. The building has undergone restorations and adaptive reuse while retaining its historic presence on the skyline.
